Andorra, 10 Dinar, Seven Virtues, Fortitudo, Botticelli, Art, Silver, 2012

The beautiful silver coin of Andorra Principality is a part of a collection dedicated to the world-famous series Seven Virtues, created in Renaissance period in Italy. The painting showing Fortitude is the only one of the seven pictures which was painted by Sandro Botticelli. Others were created by the workshop of the master Pietro Pollaiolo. The set of seven painted panels with images of Christian Virtues on them were ordered for decoration of the Tribunal Hall in Florence, but now they are housed in different art museums and galleries. Fortitude is Botticelli’s first recorded picture. The collectible coin of Andorra shows the image of the beautiful Botticelli’s work on its reverse surrounded by the relief Renaissance-style frame depicting columns and floral ornaments. The other side bears the state emblem of Andorra and the face value of the coin. There are stunning Renaissance reliefs too in the lower part of the unusual panel-shaped special coin. The piece is made of the highest rate silver and housed in a fine demonstrating case.
