Ukraine 20 hryvnas Severyn Nalyvayko (? - 1597) Cossack-Peasant Uprising 1998

The commemorative silver coin minted by the Bank of Ukraine in 1998 is dedicated to the Cossacks’ Hetman Severyn Nalyvaiko. He was a leader of Cossack uprising against Poles burst in the 16th century. Nalyvaiko was executed in Warsaw captured by Poles during the fight, but he remained popular hero in Ukrainian folklore. The relief equestrian figure of the Hetman Nalyvaiko surrounded by the Cossacks is depicted on the reverse side of the coin. His name in Ukrainian is minted by the circumference along the rim of the coin. The dates of existence of Nalyvaiko’s paramilitary organization are minted next to his effigy. The opposite side of the coin shows the big picturesque Ukrainian Coat of Arms in the center. There are holy patron of the country Saint Michael and a lion placed next to the Trident. The name of the country is indicated above the emblem while the denomination of the piece is explained below it.
