The special gold proof coin of Ukraine minted in 2008 depicts the famous landmark of Crimea, the Swallow’s Nest castle. The romantic building was constructed on the top of the cliff, high above the sea, in 1912. Its unusual Neo-Gothic architecture similar to the fairytale European castles made it one of the most visited attractions of Crimea peninsula. The building in all its beauty is depicted on the reverse of the collectible 50-hryvnia coin; the name of the castle in Ukrainian is minted beside the effigy. The obverse of the .900 rate golden coin bears the national emblem and the name of the bank along the upper rim. The face value of the piece and the year of mintage are mentioned lower. The rest of the surface is occupied by the romantic image of the sea waves and a flying sea gull.
